On May 6th, D4V Global’s SeniorSafe initiative hosted an engaging scam prevention workshop at the Vintage Senior Center, bringing together an audience of around 60 attendees for an interactive discussion on staying safe from modern scams and financial fraud.

At SeniorSafe, our mission is to help seniors stay informed, confident, and protected in an increasingly digital world. This workshop focused on some of the most common scams targeting older adults today, combining education with practical, real-world examples.

Topics We Covered

Investment Fraud

We discussed how scammers often promise “guaranteed returns” or pressure people into making quick financial decisions. Attendees learned important warning signs of fraudulent investment schemes, including:

  • Requests for urgent action
  • Promises of unusually high returns
  • Unlicensed or unverified advisors
  • Pressure to keep investments secret

We emphasized the importance of slowing down, verifying information, and consulting trusted family members or financial professionals before making financial decisions.

Tech Support Scams

One of the most relatable topics for many attendees was fake tech support scams. We explained how scammers pretend to be from well-known companies and claim there is a virus or issue with a device. Through practical demonstrations, participants learned:

  • Legitimate companies do not randomly call to fix devices
  • Pop-up warnings demanding immediate action are often fake
  • Never give remote access to unknown callers
  • Personal or banking information should never be shared over unsolicited calls

Phishing Scams

Phishing scams continue to become more sophisticated through email, text messages, and fake websites. During the workshop, we walked through examples of suspicious messages and taught attendees how to identify:

  • Fake links and email addresses
  • Messages creating panic or urgency
  • Requests for passwords or verification codes
  • Fraudulent banking or package delivery alerts

Participants practiced spotting red flags using realistic examples, helping build confidence in identifying scams before responding.

Interactive Learning Through Real Examples

One of the most valuable parts of the workshop was the use of practical examples and discussion-based learning. Instead of simply presenting information, we encouraged attendees to analyze scam scenarios and decide how they would respond in real situations.

The audience was highly engaged throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions, sharing experiences, and actively participating in discussions. The positive feedback and enthusiasm from attendees made the event especially rewarding for our team.

Looking Ahead

We are incredibly thankful to the Vintage Senior Center for welcoming us and helping make the workshop such a success. Due to the strong response and engagement from attendees, we are excited to share that SeniorSafe will be returning later this summer for another session.

As D4V Global continues to expand SeniorSafe, we look forward to bringing more educational workshops to communities and helping seniors stay informed, empowered, and protected.
